New Queensland smoke alarm laws

These smoke alarms meet the requirements for installation in existing dwellings* under new Queensland smoke alarm legislation, which now requires mandatory installation for dwellings being rented or sold, and all dwellings (eg: family home) by 1 January 2027.

A minimum of 5 smoke alarms are required (often more) for a single story, 4 bedroom house under the new laws (if you require more than 5 alarms, contact us to request a discount on the single item listing to match the 5-pack price).

* for existing dwellings with wired 240v smoke alarms, these need to be replaced with wired 240v smoke alarms to comply with Queensland laws. Additional smoke alarms can be 10-year battery powered (and wireless) but must also interconnect with the 240v wired smoke alarms. Contact us for details about supply of compatible wired smoke alarms.
