As a spin-off of the highly popular “Jazz Collection 1000” series launched in 2014, the new “Crossover & Fusion 1000” series has begun. Just like the jazz series, this lineup is carefully selected from Sony Music’s extensive catalog, focusing on the two iconic American labels, Columbia and RCA. The series features 100 titles in total (50 titles released on April 27 and another 50 on May 25), including legendary masterpieces, long-awaited reissues, and rare works being released on CD for the first time—all at the special price of 1,000 yen (+tax) (2-disc sets at 1,500 yen +tax). Each release includes newly written liner notes.
This legendary album features Kimiko Kasai, one of the most celebrated vocalists of the 1970s Japanese jazz scene, performing together with Herbie Hancock’s “Vocoder Band.” Iconic Hancock compositions such as “Butterfly” and “Maiden Voyage”, as well as Stevie Wonder’s classic “As”, are given an irresistibly funky treatment.
