Wow, so much history in just 22 photos! These were J.D. Lee's collection, who was a District Passenger Agent and retired with L&N.

This photograph album features 22 black and white 7x9" images of trains from the L&N line in Birmingham during the 1960s. The album also includes 2 photographs of Pullman porters and scenes from people going to the Sugar Bowl on the "Sugar Bowl Specials" in Pullman cars. Pullman cars are featured on the outside, and there is an interior photo of men sitting in a Pullman Drawing Room. Some photos are missing from the album but the descriptions remain.

Album also features:
  • Almost every photograph has detailed descriptions of what is happening in the photos, along with who is in them. Most of them feature executives from not only L&N railroad, but other various businesses around Alabama.
  • One group of high schoolers are shown going to see Les Kelley, future 1st draft pick for the Saints, play for Alabama at the Sugar Bowl.
  • L&N executives meeting up with Albert Boutwell, mentioned by MLK Jr. in his 'Letters from Birmingham'. He is holding railroad tickets from the 30s.
  • An aerial photo from Red Mountain from the 50s photographed by Eldred Perry of the Birmingham News.
  • A nice photo of Vestavia Temple.
  • Several photos inside of Bankhead Hotel.
  • An interior photo of a classroom inside of University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa from 1947.
  • Many of the photos were taken by news photographers such as Ralph Uribe for the Times Picayune in New Orleans.
  • Many are press photos and some are taken for L&N Magazine.
A great addition to any railroadiana collection or for those interested in trains during this time period. The photographs provide a wonderful glimpse into the history of rail travel.
