Built by Cammell, Laird & Co. Birkenhead, England. Tonnage: 17,759. Dimensions: 552'x71'. Twin-screw, 16 knots, steam turbines. Two masts and two funnels. Launched February 23, 1924.

Passengers: 536 cabin 410 third. Maiden voyage: Havre-New York August 21, 1924. 

Scuttled by the Germans at Bordeaux in August 1944. Early in 1946 was raised and reconditioned for service. She was given a single funnel in the refit. Re-entered trans-Atlantic service July 1947. Transferred later to the West Indies trade. Sold to Canadian Pacififc early in 1953, as a replacement for their fire-gutted Empress of Canada. 

Renamed a) EMPRESS OF AUSTRALIA (1953) and (b) VENEZULEA in 1956.
