I wish I knew more about this beautiful carving. It seems to be from Africa, and the wood is extremely hard, perhaps teak. 

He appears to be a zebra, although his stripes are a bit modest which is why I think he could also be a donkey.

He measures 4 3/4" (W) x 5" (T)
