A lovely mid-18th century wirework sterling silver basket with hinged handle and applied grape clusters and leaves on body and handle. Solid base. Marked with the English lion (sterling), crowned leopard (London), date letter k for 1765, and a makers mark with the letters I W V L in a sort of 4-lobed stamp. Wyler identifies this as having been registered in 1764-1765 but says "names not traced". A kind ebayer offered an attribution to John Lawford and William Vincent.

6" by 5" by 4 1/2" to top of handle. Weight of 142 grams or 4.6 troy ounces.
