These flowers came from a pack of seeds called "Blue other speckled", and I was not disappointed! Their size is unusually small for Japanese Morning Glories, about 1½ - 2½ inches diameter with scalloped or rounded blooms.  The pattern ranges from dark blue with light blue flakes to light or medium solid blue. The foliage on this particular variant that emerged from this pack of seeds is different than the others ... a nice Variegated green 3 - 5 lobed leaf and the blooms are only similar in the fact that they have some white spokes and sometimes white picotee.

      Open-air pollination is used by virtually every gardener and can produce crossed varieties.  This can be fortuitous as it provides the gardener with a brand new type of morning glory which can then be refined and sold.  Think twice before removing any odd morning glories you find among your expected cultivar.  It could be one in a million!
