Berchtesgaden was a candidate city for

the 1992 Winter Olympics. The city was

one of 7 finalists that made a bid to host 

the games. 

However, in October 1986, the 

International Olympic Committee (IOC) 

selected Albertville as the host city for

the 1992 Olympics.
