African Head Charge - Akwaaba
Acid Jazz Records, 1995

«This is a solid AHC / UK style nyabinghi. Sounds very comparable to their hyped LP's which I notice are selling for pretty pennies sometimes. It has the same heavy compressed bass, crisp guitars and tight production, tribal chants and samples, Nyabinghi drumming, etcetera that makes their early stuff sound totally unique and powerful proto futuristic reggae dance music. Some of the same personnel. Definitely the same lovely positive vibe that you can elevate to.
[…] It sounds amazingly current for a mid nineties reggae album. Maybe benefits a little from better digital recording at the time compared to the 80's.
Still, considering how many legendary reggae stars floundered in this era due to increasingly cheesy production and the perils of the industry, it's really nice to find a group who did it right.»
