This represents a mixed (passenger and freight) train, as operated on minor railways. It would be an ideal for a children's model railway. providing a robust and inexpensive complete train. It would also suit someone attempting the build a model railway for £100 challenge. I acquired all three items as unwanted parts of auction job lots, which have been sitting uselessly on my shelf, and which should go to someone who needs it.
It consists of the following items:
- Hornby R333 - GWR 0-4-0T, this appears completely unused, and from its condition, bearing in mind that it was unboxed, must have been sitting in a display cabinet, as it is in perfect condition. This is the earlier Margate-built version, which runs very well, as can be seen in the video, indeed rather better than the later Chinese-built version which I bought for my children a few years back for their model railway, which tended to take off like a scalded cat. By contrast, this one is reasonably controllable at low speeds.
- Hornby R432A (I think! There are various numbers for this coach) - 'Southern Railway Maunsell' Brake Third Coach - this has obviously been used, but is in good unscratched and unmarked condition. Again this is the earlier Margate- built version of the coach. This is not an entirely prototypical representation of a Maunsell coach, being Hornby's 1970s first attempt at one, basically consisting of their attempt at GWR Collett coach, with a more Southern looking roof. It does not come in its original box.
- Hornby R64344A - Barkby Jolliffe, 8 Plank End Tipping Wagon - Mint & Boxed Mint example, which appears totally unused, in a reasonably good box. An attractive wagon, with a working end door. This is a modern Chinese made wagon
Both the loco and the coach come in a recent Hornby locomotive box, which has no insert but both are wrapped securely inside, and thus can be stored.
The models will be well wrapped inside a stout cardboard box, protected by bubble wrap inside it, and will be posted rapidly after the auction.
