Russian / Soviet USSR / CCCP Yuri Gagarin VOSTOK 1 Space pin II.6 READ!

 Fantastic lapel pin issued  to celebrate the first manned flight into outer space.  

Circle with a diameter of 18 mm is framed on the right by a Laurel branch. In the center of the icon on a blue background is the Spasskaya tower of the Kremlin and a rocket pointing upwards with the inscription on its side: "USSR". The icon has an inscription around its circumference:  «Космический корабль «Восток». 12.IV. 1961», "Spaceship Vostok. 12. IV. 1961». Blue, red and black enamel. Anod. Al. STD. Victory Plant. 1961

Listed as item II.6  of the catalog of Space Badges of the Soviet Union 1957 - 1975 by V. N. ILYINSKY, V. E. KUZIN, & M. B. SAUKKE.  The pin is also shown in the color section of the book.

Furthermore in the forward of the book is shared the following story:

La Izvestia newspaper April 17, 1961
"Every Soviet person these days is filled with sincere admiration: space is conquered! The first cosmonaut continues to receive thousands of letters, telegrams, and gifts.

Two people from the Moscow watch factory "Pobeda" came to the editorial office and put on the table a small gilded icon on a bare background with Spasskaya tower and the Kremlin, words: "Space ship Vostok, a fast rocket is carried away into the blue sky. The date at the bottom is "12.IV.1961". On the right, the icon is framed by a Laurel branch. On the back is the inscription: "First copy. To the first cosmonaut, Yuri Gagarin, from the team of the Pobeda factory. Moscow. 15. IV. 61"
The factory team made this badge in two days. But it was necessary to create a sketch, make a stamp, and do a lot of complex processes.
