Kodak Wide Field Ektar 190mm (7-1/2") f6.3 Large Format Lens in Original Box

product image

Offered here is a nice Kodak Wide Field Ektar 190mm (7-1/2") f6.3 large format lens in its original wooden shipping box. The lens is factory mounted in an Ilex #4 shutter. The lens is complete with original front and rear lens caps. The front cap does not fit well any longer because the felt pad around the inside edge has fallen out and needs to be replaced. Also included is the original mounting flange. The shutter and flash sync are working. The slow shutter speeds vary and are slow at the 1 second and 1/2 second settings. This is caused by sitting unused and is easily fixed with either a simple CLA of the shutter or by firing the shutter several times before using it so the mechanism has a chance to loosen up. The glass on this lens is exceptionally nice. The coatings on Ektar lenses are notoriously soft and often found with major cleaning marks. That is not the case with this lens. This lens is optically bright, clean and clear without haze, fog, fungus or anything else that would impact image quality. The lens was produced in 1955 which makes it 68 years old. While it is obviously a used lens, it is in remarkably nice condition to be 68 years old. The lens uses series VIII drop in filters and the original filter retaining ring is included. At middle to small apertures, the lens covers 8X10 with little or no movement. It easily covers 5X7 with movements at any aperture. The following is a quote from a 1951 Kodak product brochure. Historical perspective these lenses were sold for $199.95 new in 1951. Why not add this classic to your large format kit today.

"The Kodak Wide Field Ektar Lenses are primarily intended for applications where a wide angular field is required plus the same sharp, highly-corrected images as provided by other Ektar Lenses. This increased coverage permits a maximum use of camera swings without loss of image quality or the danger of distortion commonly experienced with wide angle lenses. The angle of coverage is 75 degrees at f /6.3, and 80 degrees at stops smaller than f / 11. When critical sharpness is required, it is suggested that the smaller stops be used.

All air-glass surfaces are Lumenized-surface treated for improved clarity and brilliance. This same treatment improves color purity when color transparencies or color separations are made. The unusually high degree of lateral color correction adds to their suitability for color photography. Since there is no change in focus with aperture, the relatively large stop of f 6.3 may be used for focusing, and the lens stopped down to the exposing aperture without changing the plane of critical focus."
