During a 10-year span from 1947 thru 1956, the New York Yankees and the Brooklyn Dodgers met in the World Series SIX times in 10 years.  And the Yankees won 5 of the six meetings.  This listing is for an awesome 2-DVD set of a compilation of World Series highlights of the 1947, 1949, 1952, 1953, 1955, and 1956 World Series, all between the New York Yankees and the rival Brooklyn Dodgers.  Here is what is included on these DVDs:

DISC 1

  • 1947 World Series - Yankees 4 Dodgers 3 - The first World Series to be televised, this was the Yankees first World Series championship since 1943.  The Yankees were led by Yogi Berra, Joe DiMaggio, and Phil Rizzuto, while the Dodgers were led by Pee Wee Reese, Jackie Robinson, and Duke Snider.  The series had 3 one-run games, with the Yanks winning Game 7 by a score of 5-2.  A running time of 23:08 and commercials have mostly been edited out.
  • 1949 World Series - Yankees 4 Dodgers 1 - New York's second World Series win over the Bums in 3 years, this World Series would start a run of 5 straight World Series championships by the Yankees, and the first of 14 AL pennants in 16 seasons (1949-64)!  Led by Manager Casey Stengel, and Yogi Berra, Joe DiMaggio, Johnny Mize, and Phil Rizutto, the Yanks ousted Brooklyn in five games, while Brooklyn was led by Roy Campanella, Gil Hodges, Duke Snider, Pee Wee Reese, and Jackie Robinson. The teams traded 1-run wins in Games 1 & 2, with New York winning Game 1 1-0, while the Dodgers won Game 2 1-0.  Another 1-run win for the Yankees in Game 3, and 2 more wins - both at Ebbets Field - and the Yanks were champs again!  A running time of 23:24 and commercials have mostly been edited out.
  • 1952 World Series -  Yankees 4 Dodgers 3 - After the Yankees swept the Phillies 4-0 in the 1950 World Series, and the Giants 4-2 in the 1951 Series, it was Yankees - Dodgers again in 1952!  The Yankees were led by Manager Casey Stengel, and even though Joe DiMaggio had retired, a young Mickey Mantle had a breakout season for the Yanks, along with Yogi Berra, Johnny Mize, Billy Martin, and Phil Rizzuto, while the Dodgers were led by Roy Campanella, Pee Wee Reese, Gil Hodges, Jackie Robinson, and Duke Snider.  The Dodgers led the series 3-2, before the Yanks won Game 6 3-2 and Game 7 4-2 with OF Billy Martin making a game-saving catch to take the championship yet again!  A running time of 23:03 and commercials have mostly been edited out.
  • 1953 World Series - Yankees 4 Dodgers 2 - The Yankees would win their 5th consecutive Word Series title, and fourth over the Dodgers in 7 seasons.  The Yankees were led by Manager Casey Stengel, and Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, Mickey Mantle, Johnny Mize, Phil Rizzuto, and Billy Martin, and the Bums by Roy Campanella, Pee Wee Reese, Jackie Robinson, and Duke Snider.  Once again the series was tied 2-2, before the Yanks won Game 5 at Ebbetts Field 11-7.  In Game 6 the Dodgers would score 2 runs in the top of the 9th to tie the score 3-3 on a Carl Furillo 2-run homer.  But the Yanks Billy Martin (the Series MVP) would drill a single in the bottom of the 9th to win the Series for the Yankees yet again 4 games to 2!  This was the Dodgers seventh World Series appearance without a win and Manager Chuck Dressen was terminated after the season.  He was replaced by Walter Alston who would manage the Dodgers for the next 23 seasons!  A running time of 23:30 and commercials have mostly been edited out.
DISC 2
  • 1955 World Series - Dodgers 4 Yankees 3 - The Dodgers won the series in 7 games to capture their first World Series title in franchise history!  It was also the Yankees first loss in a World Series since 1942, and only their second series loss since 1926 - having a 15-2 World Series record in that time.  But the Yanks would go on to lose the World Series in 1957, 1960, 1963, and 1964.  The Dodgers were led by Manager Walt Alston, Roy Campanella, Gil Hodges, Pee Wee Reese, Jackie Robinson, Duke Snider, and Sandy Koufax, and the Yankees by Manager Casey Stengel, Yogi Berra, Mickey Mantle, Whitey Ford, and Phil Rizzuto.  Yogi Berra won the AL MVP, while the Dodgers Roy Campanella edged out teammate Duke Snider to win the NL MVP.  The Yankees won Game 1 & 2 in Yankee Stadium 6-5 & 4-2, and the Dodgers won Games 3, 4, and 5, all at Ebbets Field 8-3, 8-5, 5-3, and the Dodgers were ahead 3 games to 2.  Could this finally be THE year?!  The Yankees would win Game 6 5-1, and it all came down to Game 7 for the Dodgers - again!  This time Brooklyn pitcher Johnny Podres (the Series MVP) shut out the Yankees 2-0 and the drought was finally over and the Brooklyn Dodgers had won the World Series!  A running time of 42:10 and commercials have mostly been edited out.
  • 1956 World Series - Yankees 4 Dodgers 3 - This time the Dodgers were the defending champions.  This match up would be the last all-New York City series for 44 seasons until 2000, as the Dodgers (and the Giants) would move to the west coast after the 1957 season.  The Yankees were led by Manager Casey Stengel, Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, Mickey Mantle, and Enos Slaughter, while the Dodgers were led by Manager Walt Alston, Roy Campanella, Don Drysdale, Gil Hodges, Sandy Koufax, Pee Wee Reese, Jackie Robinson, and Duke Snider.  Brooklyn won Games 1 & 2, but the Yankee pitchers would throw complete games in each of the final 5 games, with the highlight being Don Larsen's perfect game in Game 5!  The Dodgers scored 19 runs in the first 2 games, but only 6 in the remaining 5 games - including just ONE run in the final THREE games!  An awesome, dominating pitching performance by the Bronx Bomber's pitchers!  Down 3 games to 2, Brooklyn would win Game 6 1-0 in 10 innings as Jackie Robinson hit a walk-off run-scoring single as the Dodgers stayed alive and forced a Game 7.  In Game 7, New York jumped ahead 2-0 in the first, Yogi Berra had 2 HRs, and pitcher Johnny Kucks held Brooklyn to 3 hits, and the Yankees cruised 9-0.  Kucks struck out Jackie Robinson for the series' final out - ironically it would be Robinson's final at-bat of his illustrious, groundbreaking career, as he would retire at season's end at the age of 37 after 10 seasons with the Dodgers. The Yankees were World Series Champs once again!  A running time of 45:31 and commercials have mostly been edited out.
