I didn?t bother trying to line up my lil smokies as pictured?while that is cute it seemed like too much work. I used two different brands of lil smokies and while both fit down in the mold cavities, neither would have rested cleanly in the end as pictured. That said, they are still really cute and were very easy to make. I made cornmeal pancake batter from scratch [see below for the recipe I used] and they taste a bit like corn dogs. My 6-year-old loves them!Here?s the batter I used, for those interested. This quantity made 5 dozen:1-1/8 c. unbleached all-purpose flour1-1/8 c. yellow cornmeal3 Tbsp granulated sugar3/4 tsp baking powder3/4 tsp baking soda1/2 tsp sea salt1-7/8 c. buttermilk [I used powdered buttermilk + water]3 large eggs4-1/2 Tbsp unsalted butter, melted and cooled to room tempWhisk together dry ingredients [including buttermilk powder if using that]. Separately, whisk together liquid ingredients. Stir wet ingredients into dry.I brushed the cavities with melted butter and used a plastic condiment bottle to dispense batter into each before adding the lil smokie.I baked at 425°F for 25 minutes. As soon as I could stand to handle the molds with my hands I flipped the rocket bites out onto a wire cooling rack.

I?m sure the size of each bite was listed on the description, but it still seemed deceptively little when it arrived. I know they?re designed for ?mini hot dogs?, but honestly, I live in an area with a RIDICULOUS amount of grocery stores and wide array of products, but I don?t know that I?ve ever seen hot dogs small enough to fit this. We bought mini sausages and they?re still much too big. I?m going to try Vienna sausages next (the gross little meat sticks in a can) and hopefully those will accommodate the tiny molds otherwise it?s getting shipped back.I?ll edit the review once I?ve determined if we can find a proper meat product to fill them with!
