This June 1995 Press Release and B&W
Publicity Photograph reads,
“Everyone’s favorite flying pachyderm,
Dumbo from the 1930 classic Disney animated film,
brings a splash of innocent charm to this holiday
season as an adorable porcelain ornament.
Dumbo is the first offering from a new Holiday
Ornament Series, exclusively for Walt Disney
Collectors Society members. The 1995 Gift Sculpture
captures Dumbo in one of the film’s best-loved
scenes as he splashes and frolics while taking his
first bath. The inaugural 1995 ornament echoes
that moment with Dumbo’s bath scene centered within
a porcelain bas-relief frame, featuring gold accents."
The Walt Disney Classics Collection was launched
in 1992 and created wonderful figurines that were
made of porcelain using the process that was similar to
that used to make Hummel figurines.
Individual pieces were molded, put together and fired
in an open oven. Then they were painted and fired again.
Each of marks on the pieces represented significant
milestones in Disney History. The Walt Disney
Classics Collection ceased production in 2012
after a successful 20 year run!
This B&W 8” x 10” WDCC Publicity Photograph
was for the release of the 1995 Holiday Ornament Series.
The writting on the bottom of the photograph reads:
“The Walt Disney Collectors Society proudly introduces
the Holiday Ornament Series, available to Members only,
with a beautiful porcelain ornament of the playful
baby Dumbo enjoying his first bath.
(Suggested retail $20)"
