The Cable Solutions FV Series DVI-D Dual Link cables enable flawless connections that defy the 5 meter DVI specification limit!  They are ideal for high resolution computer monitors, plasma, LCD, DLP, LCoS and CRT monitors and projectors, or any DVI-D hook-up.

Convergence

As you may know, the technical specification for the DVI interface limits cable length to 5 meters. The DVI format was originally developed with computer monitors in mind. The length limitation almost makes sense for an application where one will seldom need more than about a meter of cable.

As it turns out, the line separating computer monitors from HDTV monitors began to blur.  Some monitors can even handle both formats.  The result is that the DVI specification has been pressed into wide use on HDTV monitors in addition to computer monitors.  The obvious problem is that 5 meters just isn't long enough for many installations, and some equipment has trouble even with cables that are 5 meters or less in length.

Our Solution

There are a number of factors that limit the maximum transmission distance for digital signals, including resistance, capacitance, and EM (electro-magnetic) interference.  In order to exceed the DVI spec, we needed a cable good enough to perform like a shorter cable.  To accomplish this goal, we needed a better design and superior materials.

To reduce resistance, we used oversized 26 and 24 AWG stranded copper conductors.  To reduce capacitance, we used a nitrogen-injected PE dielectric material.  We used precision cable to ensure a consistent 100 Ohm impedance, as required by the DVI spec.

To control EM interference, each channel pair is 100 percent shielded with a hybrid Mylar/aluminum material.  In addition, the cable has a secondary 100 percent coverage aluminized Mylar shield over all of the channels and braided and tinned copper forms a tertiary shield.  Take a look at the drawing on the right to see what I mean.

Our connectors feature gold-plated pins, a slim molded PVC body with integrated strain-reliefs, and convenient thumbscrews.

The Result

The result is a high-performance cable that easily exceeds the limitations of the DVI specification.  You get over 330 MHz of bandwidth for flawless digital performance, even at the highest resolutions - up to 2048 x 1536 at 85 Hz refresh rates.  This kind of performance eliminates digital decoder errors that can cause picture artifacts and dropouts, so you get digitally perfect results!
