The definitive book on the coins and medals of Queen Isabel II of Spain, The Coins of Queen Isabel II of Spain, features a photograph of this exact medal in the catalog entry of this medal type. This is a rare opportunity for a collector of Isabel II coins and medals to obtain a piece with this interesting provenance.
This medal commemorates Spain's military campaign in Africa. The reverse depicts words from Queen Isabel II which translate: “I would price and sell all my jewels if necessary to achieve our holy quest and arrange that without remedy from my own heritage for the good and glory of my children; my splendor diminished, a humble cord would shine on my neck more brightly than strings of diamonds if it may serve to defend and lift the fame of our Spain.” Based on the engraver, one would expect this to be a Monnaie de Paris issue. However, there are no edge markings to support such a conclusion. More study is needed to definitively identify the mint of issue.

Upon confirmation of these items we will refund 100% of the original purchase price to the original purchaser. For items we sell which are already certified the PCGS or NGC guarantee of authenticity applies and those companies will honor their guarantee directly.
