Taylor Guitar 'Re-Tech' Service

NOTE: for Taylor guitars made after 2001 with the 'NT' neck system. Guitars with the older 'glued in' necks cannot have this service.

Don't go taking a file to that lovely Taylor bridge !!! Acoustic guitars require a certain amount of pressure through the bridge on to the 'top' of the guitar, the sound table - the piece of TONE wood that you have paid the money for. If you go reducing the saddle, it WILL AFFECT your tone. However, we have the skills, we have the know-how and the time.


What do you get for my £125 ?

Here's typically what we do in detail:
  1. You bring / send us your guitar at your own cost.
  2. We receive your guitar, open the box and appraise
  3. Assess the need for de-humidification / re-humidification and advise
  4. Remove the old strings
  5. Remove the Taylor neck joint sticker
  6. Remove the neck !
  7. Re-set the neck using Taylor's unique compensated shim system
  8. Re-attach the neck, "sight" it for optimum playing angle
  9. Re-set again if required - it rarely works first time (but depends on how far it was out to start with)
  10. Apply a new Taylor Guitars sticker over the internal neck bolt joint (an essential finishing touch)
  11. Deep clean fingerboard
  12. Clean and polish frets
  13. Re-string with Elixir strings worth £19.99
  14. Sight and adjust truss rod
  15. Test the playability
  16. Test the electrics
  17. Clean and polish body
  18. Re-box, address and seal
  19. Arrange FedEx Next Working day Courier (includes £200 damage / loss insurance, excess insurance available)


What's not included:

Courier from your home to Guitar Mania. We can sell you a cardboard box suitable for shipping - see our ebay shop. Then use that box to send your guitar to us - we recommend an insured courier service.

Repair to dented frets - we'll clean and polish your frets to get them nice and shiny but if they are dented and damaged then you'll need a fret dress which isn't included in the price.

Repair to damaged nut is not included - if a new nut is required this will cost extra. We'll notify you if that is the case.

Humidity correction - if the body has swelled / warped / twisted due to moisture we may be able to correct that with use of the Planet Waves humidity Control system. You will be advised, and this isn't included in the cost.

Repair damage to your guitar body - send your guitar to us with a dent in it and you'll get it back with a dent still in it.

Twisted Necks - We can't un-twist twisted necks

Warped Bodies - We can't un-warp bodies that have warped too far due to HUMIDITY or other reasons.

If your guitar is already as good as it can get then obviously we cant improve on that.
If your guitar has been exposed to excess moisture or too little moisture then the guitar wood may be damaged and warped too far for us to correct.
Taylor have written loads about importance of correct humidification for good reason. It's a guitar killer !
We can work miracles but the impossible is just that little bit out of our reach ;o)

Here at Guitar Mania our skilled guitar techs have been to the Taylor Service Centre in Holland and trained in person by Taylor Technicians and are fully qualified and authorised to carry out servicing on Taylor guitars.

It can look pretty scary from the photo, but (most) Taylor guitars have the innovative NT neck joint design. This means they are designed to be re-adjusted IF required over the years. And that's a real big "IF"... obviously many / most don't required this degree of servicing. Many other leading USA made guitar manufacturers (yep Gibson, Martin etc) require an incredibly expensive neck removal, re-glue, re-set and more importantly a re-finish (to hide the ugly repair). Bob Taylor designed a system that makes it much more manageable and affordable.

It's simple.

  2. Put your guitar in it's hard case
  3. Stick it in a well padded cardboard box
  4. Send us your guitar
  5. We'll work our magic and return the guitar in a few days*
*Usually the service takes around 1-2 working days from when we receive the guitar to when we dispatch. However, sometimes, some guitars require de-humidification or re-humidification so we will need to hold on to your guitar for a few days to allow for this. Sometimes, we need to order special parts from Taylor which can take several days to arrive. We'll keep you posted if this is the case. We have a pretty good stock of all the spares and accessories required but it's good to be fore-warned.
