For sale is an original  lithograph - WWI British recruitment poster showing a column of soldiers marching into the distance, while being joined in the foreground by a variety of men in civilian attire.  The citizens  march and evolve into soldiers  as the column progress towards the background of the poster.

Early in WWI the Parlimentary Recruiting Office explored how it might use the relatively new medium of the poster to promote enlistment efforts.  Posters like this quickly confirmed the idea that the theme of heroism was effective, and that it was every Briton's duty to join in.
