William Tillyer (1938 - ): An English painter who studied at Middlesbrough College of Art and the Slade School of Art in London. He is known for Painting on wire mesh. Tillyer took up a French Government Scholarship to study gravure under Stanley William Hayter, at Atelier 17 in Paris. His approach is constantly evolving; redefining and reinterpreting classic subject matter, such as landscapes, still lifes, and portraits, in methods that challenge historical traditions and vary between bodies of work. Tillyer Has had solo exhibitions both in Europe and America.
