Vintage Yupik Knife, Antler Handle, Early 1900s
6" Cutting Edge x 3 1/4" Long

This is a vintage piece of history, some of these types of knives are still used today by the Yupik. The nails have been peened over on each side to prevent looseness in the handle.  The handle is very tight with no wobble.  These knives were typically used by women to process an animal after men returned from the hunt.  The older knives feature antler handles, wooden handles were used later, as wood was not readily available until the fur traders arrived with wood.
