Hokuyo Glass Vase With Large Ear Handles. Hand blown glass from 1970’s in the Tsugaru vidro process which is a local traditional special procedure. II personally visited the factory in 1970 and was able to view the piece in its final stage of production. I was able to return a week later when the piece was finished to purchase.

This design was a limited design and now is a Very Hard To Find piece. The piece is in excellent condition. This is a large piece and due to the way the glass is produced, since the glass is about 1/2” thick. It is a very heavy piece.
There is a matching design ash tray/ikabana flower vase (Japanese style of floral design) available which makes the combination a very rare combination. (For sale separately).
All pieces are hand made/mouth blown glass. No two alike. Similar style of pattern created to very small limited amount of pieces available. Each just one of a kind of piece. Very rare find.
The Kokuyo Glass Company is located in the northern prefecture of Japans Tohoku region. Originally the development was found out by the glass blowers with Kokuyo Glass. The company started by manufacturing the thick glass as fishing net floats. By using this technique, Glass blowers learn to add colors by Layering the glass so it’s in different levels. In the glass you’ll see how the different colors blend and then maybe another layer above that which would be like streaks and then above that could be gold or silver leaf and another level of glass. The company isn’t a very large
Company.
They have just produced a new design as you can see in the last picture. It is still showing the shape they used in the early 70’s, There is not much of any export of their products but very wanted and sold in Japan. I would think that the majority of pieces found in the other areas of the
World were transported by military personal who happened to discover this company on the travel to Aomori or
Also probably with tourist who traveled to Sapporo during the Olympics during the 70’s held in Japan.
This again is a very limited piece and quite heavy and thick glass.
The item stands: 9 1/2” tall
The body diameter is: 8”
Wide
Top diameter of the crown: 5 1/2”
Diameter of opening. 2 1/4”
This piece is perfect. No chips, scratches or flaws. The Ikabana dish is also available. It is a matching piece which makes the two combined even rarer.
