This book was first published in 1948.  I believe this is the 1972 edition because it has "terra cotta" cloth covers.

From the Forward: This was the first book to cover English Medieval pottery. Formerly despised for their roughness and lack of superficial refinement, they are now recognized as worthy of comparison with early Chinese wares for their nobility of form.  They may be claimed as the most beautiful pottery ever made in England. They are an object lesson in the essential ceramic virtues and their merits as works of art is none the less genuine for having sprung from a craftsman's almost unconscious sense of style. (Edited)
