Japanese EBISU DAIKOKU Seven Lucky Gods Wood Carving Statue. 19” Tall Vintage.

Two of the Seven (7) Lucky Gods are seen in this hand carved wood carving depicting two of the most popular lucky Gods, Dailoku (God of Agriculture and Wealth, stands on straw barrels and mostly depicted holding a mallet. Top image) and Ebisu (God of Commerce and Good Fortune, depicted holding a fish and bamboo fishing pole. Lower image. It’s believed that displaying statues of these Gods will bring Luck and Good Fortune to the household. The two Gods are shown in a very familiar gourd used and seen in Japan. Some people refer to it as the birdhouse gourd since bird houses are formed from the smaller gourds by just drilling a hole large enough for birds to enter and build a nest inside after hanging. They were also used by Samurai to be used as containers to hold water or sake.

The statue is in excellent condition and was hand made. No signature seen carved in wood but attached to the bottom of the statue is a stamp shown as a certificate of authenticity.

The statue is 19” tall and with the bamboo fishing pole almost 24”. Width at widest end 9” and dept front to back is 6 1/2”. The wood used is a Japanese Cypress which is rare and protected wood since only fallen trees can be used only. No cutting down of this cypress and it’s believed that lucky Gods should be carved from this wood to show respect to the Gods. The 7 Gods are a part of the Shinto Deity.

Due to the size of this statue, it will be sent ground. I will cover half of the shipping cost and request $30 from the buyer.
