Lexicon 300 v3.5 Firmware Upgrade Kit

The firmware for the Lexicon 300 effect processor was upgraded several times during production, finishing with version 3.5. This made the machine far more powerful and flexible, adding:

  • DUAL MACHINE functionality with several new audio configurations.
  • An extra LFO for modulation.
  • A version of the Lexicon 224XL Rich Plate algorithm.
  • Six new Split effect algorithms including chamber, delays, pitch shift and dither.
  • Several more small enhancements and fixes.

Unfortunately, Lexicon ran out of their v3.5 upgrade kits years ago, so many users have been stuck with v1.x or v2.x firmware. Just copying the ROMs is not enough - a custom GAL logic chip is required to complete the upgrade.

However, we (Benden Sound Technology) have now successfully recreated all parts required to upgrade the Lexicon 300 to version 3.5 and can supply them in an easy-to-install kit. You will receive:

  • Two new v3.5 EPROMs.
  • One new v3.x GAL chip.
  • An IC extractor tool.
  • Printed instructions.

The installation can be done by anyone - all you need is a crosshead screwdriver and no soldering is involved. Our upgrade has been tested in units of all ages - from those running v1.02 upwards - and has been 100% successful. All the parts used are new.

Note: this upgrade is aimed at the Lexicon 300, which has a display and controls on the front panel, and not the 300L which uses a separate LARC unit for control. As far as we know, all 300Ls shipped with v3.5 already installed. If you wish - and you have a spare LARC - it is possible to convert a 300 into a 300L, but the parts required are slightly different so please contact us for advice first.
