The Art Deco, (also called style moderne) movement originated in the 1920s and developed into a major style in western Europe and the United States during the 1930s. Its name was derived from the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes, held in Paris in 1925, where the style was first introduced/exhibited. Art Deco design represented modernism turned into fashion, and included individually crafted luxury items. The intention was to create a sleek and antitraditional elegance that symbolized wealth and sophistication.
This style/design has been very popular for years, generations actually, and is still wildly popular today due to its clean lines. There are many designs from the Deco era; this one is particularly handsome, in my view; it's been a classic for years and is very collectable. And Art Deco just never seems to go out of style
This handsome 6 piece all brass set of antique Art Deco door hardware was designed for use as a privacy lock for inside a bath or bedroom door (or any door) to lock it, if so desired. The beauty is that no key would be needed/used in this application. (The key always got lost!)
This set includes: -2 Pretty Brass Deco "bullseye" door knobs, about 2" diameter; -2 Brass door plates in a great Deco design; about 6.0" x 1.5"; with 9/16" thumb turn spindle length -1 Corbin mortise lock with nickle plated brass face as was customary for inside the bathroom door. 2 square holes (no keyhole): one hole for the spindle; the other hole for the thumb turn to lock the door. 5-3/8" x 7/8" faceplate; lock box is 3-5/8"H x 3.25" D. Works nice and smooth
A fabulous set! And, all cleaned up....so you don't have to, unlike so many other sets listed elsewhere that are just plain junk, with dents, dings, paint splatters, corrosion, parts that are so rusted together you can't even get them apart when you try to install them! I don't sell junk. This set will be ready to use when you receive it, even the spindles and set screws.
These antiques date back to the 1920's-1940's and are as popular today as they were back in the day, if not more so. They will last forever, are very decorative, are never out of style, and add elegance to even a plain, simple door. And, so much prettier and better- quality than those cheap-looking imported reproductions you see at some retail stores. Knobs are not all corroded; not rusted/frozen to the spindle etc. Who wants that?
As with all old, antique, vintage and pre-owned items, these may have some degree of visible wear, discoloration, dust, tarnish, etc, which is considered normal. Patina and finish may vary from piece to piece. This hardware is old, taken off antique doors so it’s not like-new or perfect; I consider it to be in good to very good vintage condition, consistent with age and use, but YOU be the judge. Lots of pictures included; please review all of them carefully as they are a part of the listing. I always encourage questions BEFORE buying; I AM NO EXPERT ON THESE; I DON’T KNOW EVERYTHING THERE IS TO KNOW ABOUT THEM; I AM ONLY HUMAN. YOU MAY KNOW MORE ABOUT THESE THAN I DO. PLEASE DON’T ASSUME ANYTHING AND ASK QUESTIONS; I WANT YOU TO BE HAPPY WITH YOUR PURCHASE. AGAIN, PLEASE RE-READ THE LISTING DETAILS, REVIEW ALL THE PICTURES AND ASK QUESTIONS IF YOU ARE UNSURE ABOUT ANYTHING.
Age, from research, is believed to be accurate but is not guaranteed. Actual age unknown. Please do your own due diligence if this is a concern. Spindle screws may not be original. Back plate mounting screws are not included. Please review the item’s dimensions to ensure they will fit your needs/requirements. Again, view all photos and Listing details for condition, detail and dimensions/measurements etc before bidding or purchasing. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions whatsoever.
These are offered AS-IS, NO RETURNS OR REFUNDS so study all of the photos closely and make your own assessment of condition and to make sure that these items suit all of your needs. ALL SALES FINAL. Please ask questions.
There is nothing like antique door hardware to showcase your decor and make your doors look special. The newer, imported stuff you see in retail stores is, in a word, ...terrible.. Don't waste your time and money. Antique hardware made in the USA remains the "gold standard".
