Doctor Bennet Omalu (Smith) a forensic pathologist discovers that injuries to the brain can cause incredible damage to a person's life even in sporting events.  The news is dismissed by the National Football League and others. There is a lot of pressure from various areas including the NFL and politics to try to discredit him and put pressure on his family.  

Gradually, the information that he is conveying is seen as truthful and the tide turns with more and more people understanding the problems and demanding changes in sports.
