Vidanga (Embelia ribes) ) is a scandent shrub belonging to the family Myrsinaceae. It is widely distributed throughout India.

Vidanga is a Sanskrit name and, besides having plenty of other names in Sanskrit itself, it has variety of names in different languages. English name False black pepper is based on its appearance which closely resembles black pepper, but slightly smaller in size and has smooth surface. It is called Wawerung or Baberang in Hindi and Vavding in Gujarati.
