This is an original and complete sheet music from 1908 by feminist named Nell Brinkley. Shows a woman in front and in full control of the canoe and the only one with a paddle. She is paddling a birch bark canoe in a red dress with her curly red hair blowing in the wind. Her man is behind her and holding on to her and the canoe. The art was done by a young feminist named Nell Brinkley who arrived in Manhattan in 1907. She started in in comic strips and then worked for William Randolph Hearst’s “New York Journal-American,” producing lush illustrations that featured stunning curly-haired working-class women. Quickly, her Brinkley Girls were all the rage. This canoe image is considered one of her best works showing the woman in charge and is very difficult to find as not many were produced or have lasted.
This is I own over 10,000 sheet music, and this is one of my best pieces. It came from a collection that had about 20 pieces from 1900-10 that appear to never have been used or sold. They are pristine for sheet music with no stamps on the cover. This treasure would look great framed in your collection or as a gift. Aprox Size: 11 x 14 inches
