The luminaries of golf (Snead, Palmer, Nicklaus, Byron Nelson, Kathy Whitworth, Nancy Lopez) traveled to the historic St. Andrew's Golf Club in Hastings-on-Hudson outside of New York City on June 20, 1988 to celebrate "The Centennial of Golf in America".  The day included the Centennial Hero-Am when 28 fivesomes (yes, five in a group) teed off for an 18-hole exhibition.

It was amazing to see both the men and women who built the sport take part.  The field also included Deane Beman, JoAnne Carner, Charles Sifford, Pete Dye and Dinah Shore.

This true collectible includes a complete list of the participants on a pairings sheet plus a second fold-out explaining the majesty of the event.  It told how on February 22, 1888, John Reid, considered the Father of American Golf, took some friends to a cow pasture in Yonkers, NY to introduce them to the Scottish game of golf.  The same year, in November, Reid formed the first golf club in the USA, St. Andrew's Golf Club, then in Yonkers.

Golf Magazine organized a panel of the sport's experts to nominate the 100 men and women who had made what was considered to make "the greatest mark upon the game".  That group is identified on this memorable piece, and they were honored the same evening at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City.
