The History of England, from the Invasion of Julius Caesar to the Revolution in 1688, in Two Vols. by David Hume, Esq. and a Further Continuation to the Reign of George IV in One Volume by Hewson Clarke
Three Volume Set 1824
Classic title.
Includes numerous detailed prints and a colored fold out map of England and Wales in excellent condition.
Appears to have been rebound at some point in the last 100 years by A.R. Adams in Dover, England- in business since 1888.
Pages itself are in very good-excellent condition. I can't really find anything negative (other than the dust and extremely mild foxing in rare areas) and the engravings are amazing.
The bindings need to be considered in the condition report.
Overall: General wear and dust.
Volume 1: Some 'bunching' of material on cover (leather). A bit of bend to the upper right of cover and some banged corner. Dust
Volume 2: Some water staining to cover. This has bled through slightly on the end papers. Very tight
Volume 3: Hewson Clarke's 1688-present (1824) Addendum. Book has been mishandled and probably dropped with beginning of partial separation of the cover. Cover is still bound. The first page overleaf has a slight tear and some stress waffling due to its misfortune.
Overall this is a very good example of a classic text with phenomenal illustrations. Even without the damage I would suggest a rebinding. Leather has dried over the years. It is probably time. Either way, this is an extremely nice addition to any library or collection and quite readable.
