This tapestry depicts the first Royal Coat of Arms of the UK which included the kingdom of Hannover; prior to this there was no UK, just England, Great Britain or Great Britain & Ireland.  Until 1st January 1801 George III was King of Great Britain and of Ireland, and from that date on became King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland at which time a very similar crest was also officially adopted to show this union in heraldic terms.  There was a minor change in the crown at the top of the central heraldic piece to show the Hannoverian crown in place of the previous one in 1816 and which is the Royal Coat of Arms depicted on this tapestry. There has of course been changes in the Royal Coat of Arms for many reasons since then but this was the original and first UK coat of arms to also include Hannover.
