This RJ31X jack is installed by the alarm company in order to allow the alarm system to take over control of the phone line when it needs to dial out, disconnecting you if you are on the phone or if the phone was left off hook.  This jack can be used with any type of alarm system that utilized your existing phone system to send alarm signals.
