ARTIFACT: This is an extremely rare example of a French World War II badge from the 22nd Foot Infantry Battalion in North Africa (22e Bataillon Marche Nord Afrique). The badge is locally produced in stamped rather than engraved aluminum. The badge shows a crescent and a Lorraine cross, and shows the battalion’s motto “Vae Victis” (Woe of the conquered) in the crescent.

VINTAGE: Circa World War II.

SIZE: About 1 5/8” by 1 ¼” (4cm by 3.3cm).

CONSTRUCTION/MATERIALS: Stamped aluminum.

ATTACHMENT: Uniquely manufactured pin with a covered safety-type catch.
