A Run Round the World or The Adventures of Three Young Americans

Published by DeWolfe, Fiske, and Company, Boston, U.S.A., 1891

7 1/4" by 9 7/8". 16 chapters ( I-XVI). 312 pages. A tale of two young orphans and a cousin, ages 18-21, who travel from New York to Europe, Russia, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean with many stops and adventures along the way. Presumed first edition, 1891. From title page: "Illustrated with Three Hundred Engravings". One color engraving in front of book, rest are black & white. Illustrated front and back covers; appears to have been glued to binding by publisher. A song sheet from that time period was inserted inside book (see photo 12), may or may not be associated with the book.

Poor condition. Book is very fragile & should be handled with care. Most of the damage appears to be age-related: brittle pages resulting in chipping and tatters; pages have medium to dark yellowing. Page corners flake while handling the book. Binding is loose with a lot a play on front and back covers; webbing used in binding is visable on inside front and back covers (see photos 4 & 6). Illustrated front and back covers are chipped (see photos 2 & 3) but not loose. Front flyleaf torn free from book with previous owner's name (see photo 5). Back flyleaf is also torn loose with minimal writing near spine (see photo 7). Some loose pages, some pages with bent, torn, or missing corners not affecting text. Some torn pages. Pages are aligned with binding, but the cover shifts when standing upright. Front cover corners bent and worn. Back cover corners worn. Cloth spine is slightly tattered at the bottom.
