Rare cased solid silver rowing medal presented to Lewis Hutchings of Selwyn College, Cambridge University for winning the Clinker Fours race in 1888.
The front of the medal depicts the Cambridge University Crest in high relief & is embossed:
"UNIVERSITAS CANTABRIGIENSIS"

"THE CLINKER FOURS 1888"
The underside of the presentation case lid has an applied silver shield which is engraved "C.U.B.C. CLINKER FOURS WON BY SELWYN B.C. 1888" Also engraved are the names of the crew and their weights.
The medal came with a hand-written note (see photos) which confirms the medal was won by Lewis Hutchings. The note was clearly written by the rower's son some time ago.
