About the Book:
Few figures in American frontier history command the enduring fascination of Butch Cassidy - outlaw, train robber, and reluctant folk hero whose legend has long outpaced the facts of his life. Butch Cassidy, My Brother offers something no dime novel or Hollywood script ever could: the truth, as told by family.

Lula Parker Betenson, Butch's youngest sister and the last surviving member of his immediate family, broke more than four decades of silence to write this firsthand account, published by Brigham Young University Press in 1975. Drawing on her own memories of the Parker family's pioneer Mormon upbringing in southern Utah, Betenson paints a portrait far removed from sensationalized headlines - that of a mischievous but good-hearted boy, raised in hardship, who became one of the West's most notorious - and curiously beloved -  bandits.

Betenson's recollections go beyond outlaw lore, offering a quietly moving account of Butch's secret return home years after his supposed death, a reunion that reveals a man burdened by regret and longing for reconciliation with the family he left behind. It remains one of the few primary-source narratives on Cassidy's life, making it an essential reference for Western historians, Mormon pioneer researchers, and outlaw-era enthusiasts alike.

This offering is a first edition, second printing hardcover, complete with the original dust jacket and signed by the author herself — a scarce combination rarely found together in today's market. The binding is tight, and all 264 pages remain bright and clean, free of writing or markings, preserving the integrity of this historically significant volume.

For collectors of Western Americana, Utah outlaw history, or signed LDS pioneer-family memoirs, this edition represents a tangible piece of frontier storytelling — straight from the source, and increasingly difficult to find in this condition.

About author, Lula Parker Betenson:
Lula Parker Betenson (1884–1980) was the youngest sibling of Robert LeRoy Parker - better known to the world as Butch Cassidy. Raised in a devout Mormon pioneer family in Circleville, Utah, Betenson grew up amid the rugged realities of frontier life, witnessing firsthand the hardships that shaped her brother's early years and eventual turn toward outlawry.

For decades, Betenson kept her family's private history largely to herself, watching as newspapers, films, and popular legend reshaped her brother's story into myth. It wasn't until later in life that she chose to share her own recollections, offering a rare insider's perspective on one of the West's most mythologized figures.

Published when Betenson was in her nineties, Butch Cassidy, My Brother stands as both a personal memoir and a historical corrective - written not by a journalist or novelist, but by someone who knew Butch Cassidy simply as a brother. Her account remains a cornerstone reference for historians studying Cassidy's life, Utah pioneer heritage, and the cultural intersection of Mormon settlement and Western outlaw history.
