A pair of Doulton Burslem porcelain vases mounted on square bases, with intricate molded work to the shoulder and rims. Producing these would have been an expensive process. Both are marked on the underside Manufactured for Osler Designers London and H.G.T for Harry George Theaker, plus impressed 0809 (mold number) and Doulton.
The Doulton mark was used from ca 1885 until 1891 when England was added.
Theaker was presumably the vase’s designer. Theaker is known for his wonderful painting of figures, especially on Doulton’s Luscian ware.
Osler Designers was a luxury good shop, which they opened in 1845 at 45 Oxford Street London to cater for quality customers, retailing high-end porcelain and bone china tableware. They commissioned exclusive patterns and custom designs from premier English potteries and porcelain manufacturers, especially Coalport, Copeland/Spode, Cauldon, and Royal Doulton.
Both vases are in good antique condition, no chips or cracks, crazing to both and with some discolouration as shown, plus a small glaze loss on the reverse of the vase on the right.
