A Sèvres style covered urn hand painted with a battle scene, an ormolu finial. Signed Guillou, the underside of the cover is marked Monté et decoré a Sèvres (mounted & decorated at Sèvres). The underside is marked with Sèvres style interlocking Ls.

The historical battle is probably from the French Wars of Religion, most likely the Battle of Ivry (1590), featuring King Henri IV of France. The leader is shown riding a prominent white horse and wearing a helmet decorated with a large plume. The surrounding soldiers are clad in typical late 16th to early 17th-century attire, including helmets, breastplates, and carrying pikes or swords. The reverse side shows a classic French riverside château with conical-roofed towers, a standard hallmark of Sèvres and Sèvres-style decorative urns from the late 19th to frame historical narratives.

Guillou was a porcelain painter active around the late 19th to early 20th century who specialized in hand-painted scenic panels, historical/Napoleonic subjects, and 18th-century style courting couples.

Good antique condition with no chips or cracks, the gilding is shows some rubbing. Some small spots on the gilding which have a layer of what appears to be shellac.
