Few mid-century automobiles command the imposing presence of the 1959 Lincoln Continental Mark IV. Spanning over 19 feet in length with dramatic canted quad headlights, sweeping scalloped rear quarters, and factory skirts, the 1959 Mark IV stands as one of the largest and most ambitious open-air flagships ever built. As one of only 2,195 convertibles produced for 1959, surviving unmolested examples are exceedingly rare.

This Continental represents one of the most honest and consistent survivors we have ever had on hand. The car spent the majority of its life across Missouri and Colorado, followed by a stint down in dry Texas, before landing with its previous long-term caretaker in Chicago where it remained cherished from roughly 2004 until now. Retaining its factory Presidential Black finish--which digital paint gauge testing indicates is likely all-original paint--paired with an authentic survivor interior and factory air conditioning, this is a true preservation-grade classic.

Body & Paint Preservation

Paint Meter Verified: Digital paint gauge readings across the exterior panels suggest this car wears its factory-applied original Presidential Black paint (Code 01), showing honest patina and age with no signs of complete resprays or hidden filler.

Solid Survivor Structure: Thanks to decades spent across dry climates including Colorado, Missouri, and Texas, the unibody shell, floors, and chassis are super solid and dry throughout.

Exterior Brightwork & Details: Retains all original chrome, front grille, iconic Dagmars, Continental badging, and Mark IV scripts along with factory-style finned wheel covers.

Engine, Drivetrain & Mechanical Performance

430ci MEL V8 Powertrain: The massive 430 cubic inch big-block engine runs exceptionally smooth and quietly. It pulls hard and strong under acceleration, revs cleanly, and consistently holds good, reliable operating temperature.

Transmission: The 3-speed Twin-Range Turbo-Drive automatic shifts cleanly through all gears, transferring power smoothly to the rear wheels.

Fuel System Note: Two small pinholes on the bottom of the fuel tank were recently patched and sealed to ensure reliable running.

Brakes: The car stops under its own power, but being an authentic survivor, the braking system will need to be thoroughly gone through and serviced before regular road use.

Convertible Top & Cabin Features

Power Disappearing Soft Top: Retains its factory electro-hydraulic top system. The top lowers and folds back into the reverse-opening decklid under its own power. When raising the top back up, the mechanism struggles and makes noise consistent with air in the lines, indicating that the hydraulic pump and cylinders will require standard service and bleeding.

Survivor Interior: The cabin preserves its original upholstery, wood-grain two-spoke steering wheel with Lincoln star horn button, aircraft-style instrument pod, factory gauges, clock, and dash-mounted compass.

Factory Options: Equipped from new with factory air conditioning (compressor and components present in the engine bay; system is currently non-functional and will need recommissioning), factory Town & Country push-button radio, and original chrome switchgear.

Unmolested 1959 Mark IV Convertibles with verified original paint, long-term single ownership history, and a dry, rust-free structure almost never surface. This is an investment-grade, highly complete survivor that offers an incredible preservation opportunity for any premier collection.
