History

The FE-AR of Milan, founded by Felice Arosio, produced for a long period from the end of the 1950s to the mid-1980s only one model of lever machine, initially called La Peppina, also marketed by Carimali under the name of La Piccolina.

It remains essentially identical over time, with small aesthetic changes. In the 1980s, the Termomatica model was introduced, equipped with a thermostat and double switch

At first glance it could be mistaken for a table lamp but a quick inspection carried out under the lid immediately discards this hypothesis: open boiler and piston with spring. By activating the lever, a spring is compressed which, when released, pushes the piston with the right pressure necessary to make a good espresso.

It is very light (it weighs only 3.5 kg) and can be easily disassembled into a few pieces. None of the parts that compose it give a feeling of robustness and inalterability, starting from the filter holder, light as a feather, to the monobloc that acts as the brewing unit and housing of the resistance, up to the enamelled pot that acts as an open boiler.

Despite everything, it fascinates with the genius and originality of the whole. And he makes up for the rest.

Peppina with steam hose was produced and marketed by FE-AR in the 1970s. Tens of thousands of examples are produced and sold, indicating the success of the model. The introduction of the steam hose aims to reduce the disparity with similar lever models which are equipped with it.
