Collectable solid silver rowing medal relating to Cambridge University & weighing an impressive 52.7 grams.

The front of the medal bears the crest of Cambridge University in high relief. It is embossed:

"UNIVERSITAS CANTABRIGIENSIS"

The obverse is embossed:

"HEAD OF THE RIVER"

The medal comes with its original quality moulded presentation case by Munsey & Co Ltd of Cambridge but sadly the prize shield is missing which would have been engraved with the names of the crew and the date. In terms of style the medal is likely to date from the mid 20th century but could be earlier.

Silver Medal: Weight: 52.7 gm. Diameter: 50 mm. The medal is not hallmarked but was tested by the auction house selling the medal using a XRF non-invasive precious metal analyser and subsequently described as "high purity". Medal Designer: Peters of Cambridge. Retailer: Munsey & Co Ltd of Cambridge.

Summary: Despite the missing award shield this remains a collectable vintage silver rowing medal with a good weight to it & with its original presentation case. Good luck!
