Brionvega Algol 11"

Luminaire in red-orange ABS plastic material with rounded and beveled profiles. The 11-inch kinescope with 90° deflection is inclined to allow easier viewing. The body is rounded and with beveled edges. In the upper part there are the operating controls for switching on, adjusting the volume, brightness and contrast, and selecting the pre-selected VHF and UHF channels. In the upper part there is also a removable metal handle. On the back of the television there are sockets for connection to the mains, to the internal rechargeable battery, to the VHF and UHF channels, for an external speaker, and the selector for internal or external antenna (300 Ohm). The internal operating circuit includes 20 crystal diodes, 30 transients, 3 Selenium rectifiers. The main components of the circuit are placed in the lower part to facilitate repairs and maintenance. Also inside is the elliptical speaker. There are two antennas, a built-in whip for VHF and a dipole for UHF.

Function: Device that receives images and sounds transmitted via the television system (television programmes). Black and white vision. Preselection of 8 VHF and UHF channels.


Zanuso and Sapper designed the Algol 11" model in 1964, the first with an 11-inch rectangular kinescope, with its characteristic shape with the inclined screen. The original price in 1965-67, excluding batteries, was L. 158,000.
