This Jefferson Postal Card is a handwritten correspondence from "G.R.H." in Clifton, Kansas, to S. T. Powell in Waterville, Kansas, with a suggestion, if not instructions, to write James O'Connell in Galena, South Dakota, and to offer him a "rate of 5.5% + 1% Com..."

S. T. Powell was Samuel Titus Powell (1842-1912), who was born in Albany County, New York, and as a banker moved to Waterville, Kansas, where he founded the BANK OF WATERVILLE. He married and had a family, living at 108 West Commercial in a home that today is on the National Register of Historic Places.

This card was postmarked in October of 1900 in Clifton, Kansas, and sent to Mr. Powell in Waterville, KS, in Marshall County.

After the years the item may show some typical wear.
