Original antique German-language Lutheran baptism certificate (Tauf-Schein) dated June 23, 1889.

Issued for Alphons Albert Hugo Woelfel, born March 30, 1882 in Chico, California, son of Hugo Woelfel and Katharine née Berg. The certificate records his baptism in San Francisco and is signed by the officiating Lutheran pastor.

Elaborately illustrated with religious scenes including Christ blessing children, Moses with the Ten Commandments, Saints Peter and Paul, biblical passages, and baptismal imagery. Printed in brown and red with handwritten entries in black ink.

Published by Ernst Kaufmann, New York, and marked No. 30 at lower left.

An interesting piece of 19th-century German-American, California, Lutheran and genealogical history.
