This listing is for two vintage key fobs with keys from the S. S. United States, also known as the United States Lines. Typically, these fobs come up as one fob for one room. I believe this is the first time that a pair for the same room has come up for sale. Both fobs are from room U179.
The United States Lines was a prominent transatlantic shipping company that began operations in 1921 with headquarters in New York City, originally utilizing ships seized from Germany during World War I. For decades, the company was the premier American ocean carrier, ferrying passengers, cargo, and mail across the Atlantic. During World War II, its fleet was requisitioned by the government to serve as troop transports. The company's crown jewel was the S.S. United States, which entered service in 1952. Built to be easily converted into a troopship if needed, this legendary vessel remains the largest passenger ship ever built in the U.S. and still holds the speed record (the Blue Riband) for the fastest transatlantic crossing by an ocean liner. The ship hosted countless celebrities and dignitaries during its 17-year career before being retired in 1969 as the era of transatlantic jet travel made ocean liners obsolete.
Good overall condition. These are used pieces and show scuffing, some scratches/wear, etc. that is expected with such pieces. One original key is green (I have not attempted to clean it), the second has no such discoloration. Please see the pictures for more information and to help with your decision.
Fob only is 3 ½’’ long. Fob with key attached is approximately 5 ½’’ long.
