This antique French country farmhouse wooden butter mould from the late 1800s has a substantial, hinged two part articulated body featuring fluted interior borders and a deep hand carved folk art wheat stalk decoration on the base plate. Originally used in French dairies and farmhouses to press and shape fresh blocks of homemade butter, its rustic charm makes it highly collectible today for a farmhouse kitchen or unique baking collections. The heavy wooden block structure is bound with its original hand forged metal brackets and pivoting hook latch, though the hinge mechanism is broken at one end and the wood has some small splits from age as shown in the close up photos. This handmade piece is in honest antique condition with a beautiful, richly darkened wood grain patina and a solid structure free from severe warping, while the iron hardware shows an authentic aged oxidation surface as shown in the photos and the revolving video. The butter mould measures 25cm in length, 13cm wide, is 6.5cm deep and has a weight of 634g.
