This antique French holy water font (bénitier) dates from the late 1800s with a detailed silver coloured metal crucifix mounted on a hand carved wood backing with carved palm leaves at the sides and a holy water stoup at the base. The cross is adorned with religious iconography, including a central white metal corpus of Christ with a radiating halo behind, an "INRI" scroll plaque pinned above, four ornamental end caps shaped with scrolling acanthus leaf motifs, and a matching scalloped stoup basin at the base embellished with a central cross and acanthus reliefs. The font remains in unrestored antique condition, showing its original hanging string at the back and a genuine worn patina with honest wear to the wood with ancient wood worm holes(that have been treated) as shown in the photographs and revolving video. The cross measures 20cm tall, 10.5cm wide and weighs 122g.
