Leather. Condition: Poor. No Jacket. Volume I: xlviii, 408pp. (1856); Volume II: viii, 456pp., (1856). Ex-library. Two volumes, uniformly bound in 1/2 dark brown leather over cloth. Six compartments to spine, with gilt lettering and volume number to labels on spine. Exterior is quite worn, with hand-written library call numbers to each lower spine, as well as fairly heavy wear to covers in places, including chipping, bumps (heavy bumps) and tears to glaze covered spine, and fairly heavy wear to cloth boards and leather corners. Text blocks remain square and bindings largely firm. Please note that the paper is not terribly brittle, but brittle enough that several holes and tears to interior have hatched. Several of the tears have occurred within the text, with mild loss in only a few, tiny places. Typical library treatments and ownership marks. Unobtrusive pen and pencil here and there to interior. Moisture staining to margins to many pages, though this isn't offensive as most stains are faint. On the one hand, this set is a reading copy only. On the other, it is somewhat charming to hold a set printed over 150 years ago. Seller Inventory # 035518
