A SCARCE 3rd WATERMARK 5/- KANGAROO: “GREY & PALE YELLOW" (HARRISON PRINTINGS) - IN PAIR - DATED "BRISBANE 14 FE 1921" - 2025 ACSC CV$500+
The 3rd Watermark printing of the 5/- GREY&PALEYELLOW Kangaroo was made from MAY 1918 through to FEBRUARY 1926. The stamps were placed on sale in April 1918. These marsupials were printed by J.B. COOKE to May 1918; then by T.S. HARRISON to February 1926, A.J. MULLETT to June 1927 and lastly by J. ASH to late 1929. These were printed off a single-frame Plate with 120-stamps on in two Panes of 60 each with 10 Horizontal Rows of 6 stamps. There were some 13 printings over the period totalling 2,672,640 stamps. These marsupials were used as 'make-up' for the higher telegram rates, parcel and the bulk postage charges of the day. This lovely GREY & PALE YELLOW PAIR was printed by HARRISON and carries a lovely double-strike CDS showing "BRISBANE 14 FEB 1921". The 2025 ACSC allocates a CV of $500 ($250x2) for these, but perhaps CV$600 for a joined PAIR.
